All
active and retired members of AFL-CIO affiliated unions in Dallas County are
eligible to attend the monthly Central Labor Council meetings on the third Thursday
of each month at 7:30 PM. Meetings are held in the CWA building, 1408 N Washington
in East Dallas. Delegates get an update on all the developments affecting unions.
There are reports from the United Way, the Labor Council for Latin American
Advancement, the Coalition for Labor Union Women, the A. Phillip Randolph (Civil
Rights) institutute, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and North Texas
Jobs with Justice. Announcements and reports are generally short, so that the
entire meeting takes normally lasts less than 1 1/2 hours.
Toward the end of meeting, Financial Secretary Treasurer Jim McCasland asks for reports from the locals. Those union locals with special announcements or interesting developments, then take the floor. If someone needs help, they are assured of labor solidarity.
This Labor Day is a good time for every progressive person to
remember that the organized core of all American working people is their unions.
Unions have been and continue to be our main hope for better lives, more income,
fairer treatment, and dignity for all of us.
